We had a wonderful Saturday... took the train to Rapperswil, a tiny town about 30 minutes south of us on the lake. The town has a Kinderzoo, which is designed for little ones - when you enter, you buy popcorn that you can feed to almost every animal there - who would have known that popcorn was the universal treat of choice? They zoo also has pony rides, elephant rides, and a seal show. Both Kate and Jack loved it - highlights were the elephant ride (Jay and Jack pictured here) and the seal show, which was just the right length (about 30 minutes) for little ones and had them laughing throughout....
After visiting the zoo, we walked across one of the longest footbridges in Europe (which crosses the lake) and took in some of the scenery before heading home.
The weather was gorgeous here on Saturday, so we took the kids down to the lake for a long picnic dinner. Jack rode his bike to the lake, and stopped to purchase a drink from this "Syrup Kiosk" (Swiss Lemonade Stand). The proprietor was probably about 5, and was so cute that we had to buy some... but he would have definitely gotten an "F" on the health ratings... after stirring each drink, he put the spoon in his mouth to clean it off. And he was using one of the local fountains as his water source, which was technically fine - all of Zurich's 1200 fountains have safe drinking water - if you get the water when its coming out of the spigot. If you get some of the water from the bottom of the fountain, that's probably a different story. Luckily, Jack was easily distracted after purchasing his drink and we could quietly dispose of it. But it was great to see the little entrepeneur in action.
