On Sunday, we had purchased tickets to see the Vienna Boys' Choir during the Sunday Mass at the Hofburg Palace. We had excellent seats in the balcony, and could see the entire mass (from right above the priests' heads), and the boys choir in the rear of the church. The music was absolutely spectacular, and I had chills listening to the children perform. And fortunately, although they were squirrely, our children made it through the 90 minute mass - with very little noise (thankfully, as I think they were the only other children there!).
Afterwards, we walked around the palace for a little while, and then strolled the streets of Vienna, stopping to pick up a few souvenirs along the way. We then had a snack at Cafe Demel, where we all ordered cakes, tortes and warm drinks... it was delicious. And the best part was that Jay and I were both able to speak to the waitstaff - in proper German. We really enjoyed that part of the entire weekend, and lamented how much better our German would be if we could only use it in Switzerland (a good excuse, if nothing else).
We then headed back to the hotel, and took the train to the airport. They have a great service where you can check your luggage in (and get your boarding passes) at the train station, which made our return trip home very smooth. We got home early in the evening, and had a quiet evening at home.
It was a wonderful trip, with many firsts - Kate did not get sick at all (in either direction!), Jack managed to walk about 5 miles each day with no stroller, and we all successfully slept in one small hotel room - and managed to get at least 7 hours each night... all signs that our little kinder are growing up! And travelling is getting much easier! (As I write this, I'm sure our upcoming flight to Florida will prove me wrong - but at least there is hope...)
