Oma and Papa Arrive

On Wednesday, Oma and Papa arrived from New York. Their flight got in early in the morning, so I picked them up right after dropping off the kids at school. It was a great day for them to arrive, as the kids had Parent-Teacher conferences at school, so they only had a half-day. The Saccaros' hotel room was ready when we arrived, so I dropped them off at Hotel Seefeld for a little downtime to unpack and rest - before the onslaught of the grandchildren!

We then met up with Oma and Papa around 12:30, and the grandparents set out with Jack and Kate for lunch at Globus, followed by playtime at our house - while I went to both of my parent-teacher conferences. Both conferences went well, and it was nice to spend the extra time with Miss Mills (Jack's teacher) and Mrs. Lilywhite (Kate's teacher), who have come to know Jack and Kate quite well already - in a fairly short time. After the conferences, we all met at home, and had an early dinner, so that the jetlagged travelers could return to their hotel for an early bedtime.

On Thursday, the Saccaro's spent the day exploring the Kunsthaus and Zurich, and I used the day to catch up on the gym and errands. We all picked up the kids from school, and returned home for an afternoon of painting, playing and relaxing. That night, we also had an early dinner, but at least Oma and Papa got to see Jay for more than a few minutes this night - as he made it home around 7pm. (The night before, their only run-in was in our driveway on their way home! Poor things!)

On Friday, Oma and Papa came with me for drop-off, and we then hosted cooking in Jack's class. We had only 3 students - and 3 adults - so it was a very hands-on session. :)

We made Marshmallow Corn Flakes - in the shape of pumpkins - with Jack, Marlene, and Leo. It was a nice, easy morning and we had fun with the little bakers. Leo has just moved to Zurich from Italy, and is learning English - so Oma and Papa had fun speaking some Italian with him, and helping him understand the steps we were taking.

Afterwards, Oma, Papa and I went for a hike in the woods behind ICS - it was a crisp morning and beautiful to walk through the farms. We then grabbed a quick coffee next to Kate's school and picked her up at 12:00. We had a nice lunch at home and Kate savored the alone time with her grandparents. Then, Oma and Papa returned to their hotel for a bit of rest, while I took Kate to a birthday party for Delainey, one of her friends, at Gymboree. During the party, Jack played with his friend Erik, while a bunch of the moms caught up over coffee - a perfect setup, and very relaxing at the end of the week - all birthday parties should be like this! :)
