Door County - Part 1

After our visit to the 'Shire, my parents came down and got the kids and took them to Door County for some serious playtime. I was lucky enough to travel to LA (alone!) for three days of visiting with Susan, Teddy, Eric and Fonzi - see separate blog entry for LA visit... Jack and Kate had a wonderful time with Ami and Bapa all to themselves, indulging in "Camp Teddybear" - complete with water station, swingset, hammock, ride-on toy central, sitting in the "no top" cars, playing with all of our toys from our childhood, and watching the old-school Disney movies.

I then brought Fonzi back with me, and joined the kids in Door County on Friday, July 20th, and we had a few days of alone time with Ami and Bapa. During our weekend, we went to the Horseshoe Bay pool where Kate showed us that, "I swim! I swim!" She has absolutely no fear, and jumps right into the pool - whether or not someone is there to catch her. Fortunately, there always was someone there - but she is a maniac in the water. Jack continues to do well with his swimming, and was thrilled to show off his skills with his Ami and Bapa.

We also took the boat out for a dinner trip to our favorite restaurant, Fred and Fuzzy's. Jack even got to meet "Fred" and thanked him for a wonderful dinner. Big night out for the kid!

Ami and Bapa bought Jack a new bike (with training wheels) which he loved riding back and forth to town - he typically logged 3-4 miles per day! I think the incentive of a candy store or ice cream stop in town may have been some of the motivation, but it was fun to see him go nonetheless. The only problem is that when he goes, he really goes - FAST! To keep up with him, you have to run as fast as you can, so his typical question was, "Mommy, do you want to exercise with me? Let's go!"

Jack and I also had a special date at Hands On pottery, where Jack painted two ceramic pieces - it was such fun to see him carefully select the colors... and then put together his masterpiece. We had lunch there, and Jack got to create his own pizza.

All in all, it was a great start to our time in Door County... Susan and Annie joined us on Tuesday, July 24th with both babies (Teddy and Zachary) in tow - more to follow on the next blog entry.
