On Monday, Annie and I decided to take advantage of unexpectedly nice weather (it was originally supposed to rain all week), and we took the 3 kids to Mainau Island, Germany. We had been there last summer and the kids always talk about how it is one of their favorite places. The entire island is car-free and filled with beautiful gardens - but the highlight for our group was the amazing playground, where we spent 2+ hours.... Jack was so excited to be able to steer his own raft across the river, giving rides to Annie & Zack... and Kate was thrilled to play in the sand... and Zack was a good sport, keeping up with the big kids - and their ever-changing interests.
After the playground, we visited the model railway train and the petting zoo. We had a picnic lunch back at the playground and then headed home - Zack quickly crashed in the car and we all came home to a quiet evening at home.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, Jack and Kate went back to school - which gave us some alone time with Zachary... we took him shopping for his birthday present. He picked out a Swiss wooden barn (not unlike the one his cousin, Teddy, selected) and we spent time walking through all the streets of Zurich - and visiting a Starbucks or two.
Our evenings were filled with Zingo (the kids' new favorite game that Annie brought over), beauty salons, "restaurant" (Kate had rules that sometimes "babies were not allowed in her restaurant"), chasing Zachary around as he showcased his dramatically improving walking skills, dinner, baths, and finally, pure exhaustion for the moms on the couch - again, I am still not sure how anyone does this with three children - but we had a blast.
