Having visited a few well-known European monuments over the past year, it was time to visit an American one. I had not been to the Statue of Liberty since I was 16 and came to New York with my mom, so it was a fun outing to participate in. Oma and Papa arranged for us to take the ferry from New Jersey, which worked out perfectly - the ferries were far less crowded than those coming from Manhattan, and the ride to and from the ferry was fairly easy.
Once on the island, we had a great time walking around the statue with the kids. They "hiked" along the perimeter wall, and enjoyed playing "restaurant" at each of the information kiosks along the way. We got lucky with the weather, as it ended up raining after we were done with our walk - so we got some souvenirs (torches seen in pictures) and had a little lunch before boarding the ferry back to New Jersey.
That afternoon, I finished up some last minute shopping at the mall while Jack played with Papa (on his treadmill - his favorite spot) and Kate took her nap. We had dinner at their club that night, and had the great luck of having Anant (Jay's best man and lifelong friend) join us for a drink - he happened to be visiting Staten Island from Boulder, Colorado, so it was great to see him.
