Last week, Jay had to travel for most of the week, so the kids and I resumed a quiet routine. On Monday we met friends at KinderCity (site of Jack's birthday party) and enjoyed a morning at the children's museum, followed by lunch afterward. The pictures below are of Jack experimenting with the "floating" beach ball, which he mastered for the first time during this visit.
We also had a Welcome Tea for the new teachers at Kate and Jack's school. It was a nice evening and it was fun for both kids to show the "other one" around their classroom - Jack played the perfect tour guide role, assuming we had never entered his classroom before, and showed us every last detail.
On Thursday, Jay returned. The kids had asked if "Daddy could bring some gelato home from Italy," so Jay surprised them with two ice cream cones (from the Zurich airport) - which they devoured on the spot. They couldn't believe that the ice cream hadn't melted during the whole trip home!
And then Friday was Jay's 35th birthday. To celebrate, I took him away to a spa about 25 minutes south of Zurich. We checked into the hotel on Friday night - had a relaxing drink at the bar, followed by an unbelievable 5-course meal. The hotel is high in the hills overlooking the lake, so it was fun to see all the sparkling lights at night. After a wonderful sleep (I can't remember the last time we slept til 8am!) we still had time for a workout, brunch and some spa time before returning home on Saturday afternoon. Lucky for us, there was only one family who decided to take advantage of the "clothing optional" option in the spa - we're still a bit prude by European standards... It was such a treat - and gave us a chance to spend some time together as a couple. The picture below is the outside of the hotel - just gorgeous scenery.
