Last Friday, the Ferris family arrived in Zurich... they had a fairly exciting arrival - having accepted a huge offer to be "bumped" off their flight, they were routed through London with the promise to arrive in Zurich only an hour later than originally scheduled. However, it didn't go as smoothly as planned, so after two London airports, one harrowing taxicab ride, an airport shutdown for a naval air show, and several large cups of coffee... they finally arrived in Zurich after nearly 24 hours of travel. But they were in great spirits and quickly rallied - after a nice dinner that evening, Mary, Jim, Jared and Jay went for a walk along the lake to make sure they stayed up til the obligatory 9pm bedtime.
On Saturday, we shared Zurich with the gang. We walked over the bridges, visited the Fraumunster, and window-shopped Bahnhofstrasse.
Afterwards, we took a train up to Uetliberg, Zurich's nearby mountain, where the kids enjoyed the Swiss-style playground and the tower on top of the mountain. In fact, all 4 kids, Jim and I climbed to the top - we discovered that Mary and Jay share the same discomfort for heights and so they cheered the group on from below.
After climbing the tower, we were debating whether to return home or go on the hike that the tour guide had planned. Jay quickly steered the group toward the voice of reason, and we started down the hill. Good call - turns out some of us were tired! Poor Jack had his first major wipeout on his bike.. road rash everywhere! Luckily, an incredibly sweet Swiss "angel" came out from the forest with a first aid kit - and lots of well wishes for the injured boy (pictured below).
That night, our brave babysitter watched all 4 kids while the adults walked through Old Town for a drink - and then had a spectacular dinner at Terrasse. The evening was perfect for sitting outside - and we had wonderful food - and even better dessert!
